Caring For Your Glass Shower Enclosure

If you are thinking about having a glass shower enclosure installed in your bathroom, you will soon be enjoying the elegance of a trendy shower that will add to the appearance of space in your bathroom. There are a few steps you need to take to keep your glass shower doors clean and looking clear for years to come. Here are some maintenance tips to follow.

Clean After Each Use

The quality of your water can affect the clearness of your glass shower doors. If you have hard water, droplets that are left on the glass can cause staining. These stains will make the glass appear white instead of clear after a while. If it gets to this point, the glass cannot be repaired to the same clearness it was when it was new. To avoid this, clean your glass shower enclosure after each use.

Use The Proper Supplies

Keep your supplies within reach inside your shower either on a shelf or a hanging basket. Use a non-abrasive cleaner and a squeegee to clean the inside surface of your glass shower enclosure after you finish using it. It is best to clean the shower glass while you are still inside so there is less chance of water droplets or soap adhering to the glass while you are getting dressed. Drape a towel over the top of your shower door and put it around yourself when you turn off the water.

Spray the glass with the non-abrasive cleaner and use the squeegee to scrape the glass from top to bottom. Hold a washcloth at the bottom as you squeegee so you can collect excess moisture with the cleanser. Dry the glass using a piece of microfiber cloth.

Do Deep Cleaning

Once a week, clean both the interior and exterior of the glass on your shower enclosure. Use a mixture of half-water and half-vinegar. Heat this in your microwave so that it is warm when you apply it to the glass. Use a non-abrasive sponge dipped in the solution to scrub down areas where soap scum seems present.

Use your squeegee to scrape the solution off your enclosure. Use a microfiber cloth to completely dry the surface after cleaning. To fill in the porous areas of the glass, apply car wash to the surface once every six months. This will give your glass shower enclosures a slick surface and an extra shine.
